Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)

The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is a popular long-term residency option for foreigners who wish to live, invest, or spend an extended period of time in Malaysia.

At Malaya Corporate, we also provide professional MM2H application and support services, assisting clients throughout the application process, documentation, government submissions, and related matters in Malaysia.

This guide answers some of the most common questions we receive about the MM2H programme. All information is based on the revised MM2H structure introduced in 2024.

If you are considering applying for MM2H and would like to understand the requirements based on your circumstances, our team can assist you with the application process and related services.

Application Process

  1. Do I need to show proof of income or liquid assets to apply?
No, applicants are not required to submit proof of income or liquid assets. However, you must have sufficient funds to place the required fixed deposit and to purchase property as mandated by your chosen visa tier. You should also plan for your living expenses in Malaysia.

  2. Must I be physically in Malaysia to submit my application?
No, you can apply remotely as long as all documents are complete. Upon approval, you will need to travel to Malaysia to complete a medical check-up, place your fixed deposit, obtain insurance, and endorse your passport.

  3. How long does it take to get approval?
While the official timeline is up to 13 weeks, actual processing times may vary due to case volume. We recommend applying well in advance of your intended move date.

ELIGIBILITY & GENERAL CONDITIONS

  1. Can I apply if I am married to a Malaysian citizen?
Yes, foreign spouses of Malaysian citizens are eligible. Please note that Malaysia does not recognise same-sex marriages for visa purposes.

  2. Can former Malaysian citizens apply using a foreign passport?
Yes, we’ve successfully assisted many former Malaysians in obtaining MM2H status.

  3. Once approved, do I need to relocate to Malaysia immediately?
You have six months to collect your visa. Relocation is not immediate, but applicants under 50 must stay in Malaysia at least 90 days per year. All participants must purchase property within one year of approval.

  • Domestic travel within Malaysia
  1. Is the fixed deposit refundable if I leave Malaysia?
Yes, once your MM2H visa is officially cancelled, your fixed deposit and any interest earned will be fully refunded.
  2. What happens to my fixed deposit if I pass away?
A valid Malaysian will is recommended. Your spouse or next of kin may claim the funds, but they must be physically present in Malaysia to complete the withdrawal proc

Dependents & Domestic Helpers
